Established by Kerry Stacey in 2008, SWAG Camper Trailers is proudly 100% Australian family owned and operated.
SWAG has been leading the way in off-road hybrid camper and caravan design in Australia for almost two decades and has grown to a national company with showrooms in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia.
Our commitment is to deliver a top quality product that caters to first time campers and seasoned enthusiasts alike, at accessible prices to Australian families.
We have earned our reputation as being the best value manufacturer with the highest quality and best camper packages in Australia.
Since SWAG’s establishment in 2008, Kerry’s business philosophy has always been to provide customers with a superior product at a reasonable price. Initially producing and importing premium swags, tents, and camper trailers, Kerry’s focus on quality and affordability has remained steadfast.
In 2014, the RV and camper trailer industry was changing rapidly. New manufacturers were arriving in Australia offering cheaper products and what seemed to be an endless array of models.
To remain competitive in an ever-changing market, the decision was made to move our main production facility offshore and look to produce and import forward folding campers, directly from China
BY 2017, it had become evident that, apart from a few minor floor plan variations, the majority of campers and hybrid caravans being imported from China shared a striking resemblance.
We realised we needed to find our own point of difference and return to producing the quality products our brand had become renowned for. Most importantly, we needed a plan.
We broke the manufacturing processes into key phases and found the primary issue with the majority of campers and hybrid caravans (whether imported or not) was the quality control surrounding critical componentry. This was the area that we knew we could control, and this would become our core focus.
Our goal was two-fold; to redesign all of our models from the ground up and to transition from off-shore reliance to second-stage controlled manufacturing, all done right here in Australia.
Over the next couple of years, Kerry, and his team worked closely with our Australian designers, engineers and componentry partners, as well as our manufacturing partner overseas, to completely redesign the SWAG range.
After numerous trips overseas to our manufacturing partner, countless hours on video calls, a significant financial investment in prototyping and the refurbishment of two workshops, we produced what was the first significant design changes to the SWAG range.
The SWAG Camper Trailer is now in its sixth generation. Offering a single piece galvanised chassis, composite walls, honeycomb floors and a lightweight, narrow bodied design, these go anywhere hybrids and off-road caravans continue to impress.
Kerry’s long standing partnership with our manufacturing partner in China, which initially started with the production of swags, tents and box trailers, is now entering its 17th year of collaboration. We firmly believe that this enduring relationship plays a pivotal role in our ability to maintain the exceptional quality of the chassis and frames we import from China.
Imitation is often regarded as the sincerest form of flattery, as the adage goes. Regrettably however, it’s frequently used for the wrong reasons. At SWAG, we subscribe to a different expression; success is not given, it’s earned through hard work and determination.
And while many brands may look the same on the surface, it’s the customer experience that’s key. Rather than solely relying the manufacturer’s word for their product, we encourage you to seek out unbiased feedback by speaking with the caravan community. Consider established brands, with a strong history and large community groups on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Join these groups, and don’t hesitate to ask questions.
We began our journey in 2008. We have established long standing partnerships both here in Australia and abroad. We have invested countless hours on video calls, on planes and sitting in airport lounges and lobbies. We have invested significantly in our designs, development, prototyping, education and retention. We take pride in our SWAG community, knowing they are more than happy to share their experiences with anyone looking to buy.
Much like the Australian automotive industry, there are numerous manufacturers to choose from. Just as you would when buying a new car, it’s important to opt for an established and reputable brand like SWAG when purchasing a caravan.
Buying a caravan is a significant investment so take your time, do your research and feel free to ask us any questions you may have.
Did you know that over 50% of all caravans sold in Australia are now imported? In fact, a staggering 90% of products installed in all Australian-made caravans are manufactured overseas and imported.
At SWAG Camper Trailers we don’t conceal the fact that our campers, hybrids and off-road caravans are partially constructed and imported from China. But it’s what we do before construction commences and after the chassis and frames arrive in Australia that sets us apart from other manufacturers.
To ensure SWAG stays relevant and competitive in this ever-changing industry, the decision was made to transition the business to what’s referred to as “Second-stage Controlled Manufacturing”.
Every SWAG camper, hybrid and off-road caravan is designed in-house and undergoes meticulous 3D CAD modelling before production is approved. These CAD models are then forwarded to an independent Australian testing facility for certification. Once approved, the production process is then licensed to our manufacturing partner in China.
Our longstanding partnership with our manufacturing partner in China is now entering its 17th year of collaboration. We firmly believe that this relationship plays a pivotal role in our ability to maintain the exceptional quality of the chassis and frames that we import into Australia.
Once the chassis and frames are complete, your SWAG Camper Trailer is then shipped to Australia and delivered to our workshop on the Sunshine Coast. Over the next several weeks our team goes about fitting and testing all the “critical componentry” to your camper, hybrid or off-road caravan.
Critical componentry refers to the essential elements crucial for the functionality, safety and performance of every SWAG camper, hybrid and off-road caravan.
This includes components such as the suspension, electrical and plumbing systems, all carefully installed and inspected by our qualified tradespeople, using Australian supplied products. Their attention to detail ensures that every SWAG product meets high standards for durability and reliability. This provides our customers with the added comfort of knowing that these components are installed with care and expertise right here in Australia.
At SWAG, ‘Proudly Australian’ isn’t just a slogan; it’s our commitment. We’re dedicated to providing campers that surpass expectations. When you choose a SWAG, you’re opting for a level of quality that stands out.
With every SWAG product;
